    Re-opened this morning after the Lone Pine Fire:  the Whitney Portal Rd., Hogback Rd, the Whitney Portal campgrounds, the Whitney Portal Store, residences near Whitney Portal.

    Lone Pine Campground remains closed due to fire activity.  

    Permits for Mt. Whitney, Meysan Lakes, and North Fork are being issued today. Cal Fire reports the fire is 30 acres and 50% contained this morning. Please slow down for our firefighters who are still working in the area and have a safe, happy, Fourth of July weekend.

    The Whitney Portal campgrounds and the Whitney Portal Store are being evacuated by the Forest Service and Inyo County Sheriff.

    The Lone Pine Campground remains evacuated and the Whitney Portal Rd and Hogback Rd are closed.

    Whitney Portal Rd and Hogback Rd are closed. The Meysan Lakes, Mt Whitney, and North Fork  trailhead are w/in the closure area

    Inyo National Forest fire crews are assisting Cal Fire in the Lone Pine Fire. While this fire is not currently on forest land, there are closures in place due to the fire that are affecting access to forest lands.

    At this time, the Lone Pine Campground has been evacuated.

    Visitors are advised to avoid this area to assist with fire response.
