Updated mapping now shows the acreage estimated at 207 acres. This acreage number will change as a more accurate assessment of the fire perimeter is completed today. The fire is now 60% contained. Crews will continue to work today on securing and improving the line around the fire. Fire behavior is expected to be minimal.

The Evacuation Warning has been lifted for both Dutch Creek and Empire Creek.

Highway 96 is currently open with one lane escorted traffic. This will occur all day until 8:00 p.m. this evening. At that time, the plan is to full open Highway 96 to traffic. This is subject to change due to fire/road conditions. Power and telephone transmission infrastructure was damaged during the fire. The public is urged to exercise caution while driving through the Lumgrey Fire area and watch out for firefighters and utility personnel working to restore power and communications.

The fire is under investigation to determine the official cause of the fire. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown.

Crews made good progress on the Lumgrey fire last night. The 150 acres held on the north side of the Klamath River. The 30 acres on the south side has grown to 65 acres estimated, but crews are making progress on constructing handline around the south part. The Evacuation Warning has been lifted for both Dutch Creek and Empire Creek. Highway 96 is open intermittently, flag controls are in place.

Lumgrey Fire looking east

The Lumgrey incident began Monday evening around 6:00 p.m. It began as two fires, which have now burned together and is currently 180 acres with an estimated 30 acres on the south side of the Klamath River.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team will be taking over the fire in the morning.

An Evacuation Warning is in place for Dutch Creek and Empire Creek.

Highway 96 is now closed.

Crews will continue to work through the night on the Lumgrey Fire.
