Maria, Ventura County Fire Department. IMT 1 (Cal Fire Team 1) One mile south of Santa Paula, CA. Brush and short grass. Minimal fire behavior with creeping and smoldering. Infrastructure threatened.

Overnight firefighters continued to hold existing containment lines, mop-up and patrol around structures within the fire perimeter and along the fires edge. Crews will be in the area to fall hazard trees and trees that threaten control lines. Containment lines were further strengthened from 70% to 80%. Wind speeds have diminished however a dry air mass remains over the region. Daytime relative humidity values will remain in the single digits. Fire suppression repair will begin today.

Firefighters continue to patrol the fire perimeter throughout the day looking to extinguish any remaining hot spots. Fire behavior has decreased due to cooler temperatures and lighter winds. Containment lines increased from 50% to 70%.

Damage assessment crews will be in the field compiling a comprehensive report on structure damage.

Overnight firefighters continued to patrol the fire perimeter extinguishing any remaining hot spots. Fire behavior was moderated due to cooler temperatures and lighter winds. Containment lines were further strengthened from 30% to 50%. Offshore east winds remained light overnight and are expected to continue for most of the morning. Winds will then switch and a light onshore flow will be observed for the daytime hours. The critically dry air mass will remain over the region for at least 12-24 hours.

Damage assessment crews will be in the field compiling a comprehensive report on structure damage.

Venture County Fire advises that the Maria Fire is approx. 8,700 acres with 0% containment. Winds had subsided a bit and cold temps reduced the fire’s ability to make aggressive downhill runs.

The brush fire is approximately 8060 acres with 0% containment.

Gusty northeast winds will continue through this morning, then shift onshore in the afternoon and evening. However, at ridgetop levels, there is a good chance that winds will remain mostly offshore through early Saturday afternoon. Offshore wind speeds are expected to peak at the fire location this morning when ridgetop winds will gust as high as 30 mph. Single digit humidities will continue through much of today, falling to as low as 4 percent. There will be some humidity recovery to between 30 and 40 percent later this afternoon and evening with the arrival of the onshore winds near the surface. Humidities are expected to lower back into single digits as the flow turns offshore once again overnight into Saturday morning.

Ventura County Fire Department is on scene of a fast moving brush fire on South Mountain north of Somis. The brush fire is approximately 4000 acres with 0% containment. Slow rate of spread on Santa Paula side. Moving westward rapidly.

Weather Synopsis

Tail end of Santa Ana event. Winds on South Mountain at 8:30 pm are northeast 18 gusting to 25. Relative Humidity is 6%. Ridge and south slope of South Mountain winds are expected to remain are expected to continue moderate with 10 to 20 mph sustained winds and gusts around 25 mph. Lower valley winds are 2-10 mph with gust to 15 mph. Winds are expected to continue offshore on Friday with Relative humidity around 10% or less.
