Fire is 130 acres and now 25% contained. Forward progress stopped. High winds and blowing dust/sand hampering containment efforts. 1 firefighter w/non-life threatening injuries. Next update 5/20 unless major activity overnight dictates otherwise.
Update 11:30 a.m.:
Machinery used for mulching was destroyed in the fire, estimated loss of $1M.
Update 9:00 a.m.:
The fire is currently 135 acres and 5% contained. Today’s day assignment includes 20 engines, two water tenders and one dozer. Resources will remain at scene throughout the day as they work to fully contain the fire. No injuries reported.
Update 05/19/2019 1:45 AM:
Fire is now approximately 130 acres and 0% contained. Portions of the fire are burning on the Thermal Airport property. Air operations have been temporarily suspended. Additional updates will be posted as information becomes available. CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters with assistance by several agencies are on scene of a vegetation fire at Airport Boulevard and Shady Lane. The fire approximately 10 acres with multiple spot fires. Winds are from the northwest at 10-15 MPH. Additional resources are responding .
