The combination of hot temperatures, low relative humidities, locally gusty winds, and dry fuels will bring elevated fire weather conditions to the Soledad Fire burn area today. Crews will monitor hot spots and reinforce containment lines. One firefighter suffered a minor injury while working on the fire line yesterday. Crews will work through the day scouting for any potential flare-ups, while performing mop-up of hot spots and holding containment lines.

Hot and dry conditions with low RH and poor recoveries overnight will affect fire behavior and intensity
Head of fire slowed overnight with increased RH and lower temps. Islands of unburned fuel continue to be consumed in the interior. Uphill runs where fuel and topography align. Dead and down fuel continues to smolder

The Soledad Fire started at approximately 3:30 pm on July 5, 2020. Resources from LA County Fire Department and Angeles National Forest responded as the fire spread along the 14 freeway, east of Santa Clarita.
The fire rapidly grew to nearly 1,000 acres, aided by hot temperatures and dry vegetation. Air resources assisted ground personnel to slow the fire spread. The fire is currently is 0% contained.
The 14 freeway has been closed for the safety of personnel and equipment engaged on the fire, as well as public travelling through the fire area. For more information regarding road closures, please visit the California Highway Patrol.
Residences were evacuated near the area of Agua Dulce Road and Soledad Canyon road. The Red Cross has established a temporary evacuation site as of 8 P.M. at Victory Outreach parking lot. The address is 37419 25th Street, East Palmdale, CA 93550. Residents must remain in vehicles.
