July 28, 2020 – The Adams Fire remains at 918 acres tonight and is now 50% contained. No additional growth occurred on the fire. Today, fire crews focused on securing all fire lines and mopping up hot spots within the fire’s perimeter. The majority of hot spots were located on the ridge top on the far southwest edge of the fire. Hotshot crews were able to utilize water drops from helicopters to assist in mop up. Firefighters will remain on the fire overnight to ensure all containment lines hold and to continue to mop up and patrol near structures. An Evacuation Warning remains in effect for south Constantia Road (Lassen County Sheriff’s Office). All road closures were lifted earlier today. The next fire update will be posted mid-morning tomorrow.

12:00 pm – New numbers for the Adams Fire: the fire was mapped out at 918 acres and is now 30% contained. No additional fire growth occurred today; the increase in acreage is due to more accurate mapping. Travelers on US-395 and residents in the Doyle area may see helicopters flying in the area. Four helicopters are assigned to the fire and are supporting Hotshot crews on the ridge line with water drops on a few hotspots. All fire lines continue to hold. The next update on the fire will be posted this evening.

Plumas National Forest updates:

7:00 pm – Fire behavior has calmed once again on the Adams Fire. It is currently 600 acres and is 5% contained. Firefighters will continue working on the fire overnight. Please check back tomorrow morning for the next fire update.

6:00 pm – Firefighters are having success on the spot fire that resulted from gusty winds this afternoon and are holding all other fire lines. The spot fire did cross US-395 near the south end of Constantia Road, but forward progress on that spot has been stopped. Current acreage is estimated at 600 acres. US-395 has reopened to one-way controlled traffic from Red Rock to Doyle. Structure protection remains in place. No additional evacuations or road closures have been ordered.

4:00 pm – New Road Closures: US-395 is currently closed in both directions from Doyle to Red Rock for an unknown duration due to a spot fire. No additional evacuations have been issued.

3:00 pm – Thunderstorms accompanied by very light rainfall have reached the fire area. These storms are capable of producing downdrafts with 40-50 mph winds. All firelines are currently holding. 1:00 pm – Not much growth on the fire; it is still mapping out around 500 acres. The smoke has diminished just enough to see clouds moving into the area. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9:00 pm. All previous evacuations and closure remain in effect.
