September 2, 2017 at 8:31 AM

Firefighters will once more face changing winds and high temperatures. Winds will start out from the north and switch to the southeast later in the day. Gusty and erratic winds can reignite smoldering debris and trees. Major hazards within the fire perimeter exist: falling trees and branches from weakened trees and steep terrain. Standing dead trees (snags) continue to be removed today. Mop-up 300 to 500 ft inside the line is ongoing. Some resources may be released at the end of today’s operational period.

At the morning briefing Incident Commander Tim Person reiterated the objectives for the day: Keep the fire south and west of Oak Tree Road. Keep the fire east of Hwy 49 and north and west of Tyler Foote Crossing. Yesterday’s operations made good progress. Today’s main goal is to mop up 300 ft from the fire line into the fire.  The fire is lined and plumbed, meaning it has a hoselay around.

Hazards exist within the fire perimeter, especially dead standing trees and even live trees that can snap due to heat stress. Firefighters were reminded to “keep their head on a swivel,” look up and be safe. With temperatures expected to be above 100F, frequent hydration and breaks are needed to insure safety.

Helicopter 528 is assigned to the fire, but the ship is available for initial attack as well. Crews will strengthen the containment lines and some resources will be released due to high demand for resources in all of California. The fire has a tentative containment date of Sunday at 6pm but that could be extended if the resource drawdown continues.
