Smith IC reports the fire as contained. Final size 1.7 acres, including the spot fires. Some resources are being released, with some firefighters remaining on scene and finalizing mop-up. The fire will be monitored and patrolled overnight.

A 100-ft long coco husk chips pile needs to be fully extinguished at Rare Earth. Firefighters will be comitted for at least 2 hours just to this part of the mop-up.

Smith IC reports the main fire is now fully contained. However, there are four spot fires still uncontained. Full containment will be reached later this afternoon. Firefighters are still actively working this fire.

Smith Air Tac is leaving the fire, returning to the Grass Valley Air Base. Some of the engines on scene are being made available for new incidents within the area.

The closure of Hwy 49 at McKnight will be lifted, traffic control is in place. Smith Air Tac has released helicopter AT back to Whitecloud.

Fire behavior has greatly moderated. The woodchip piles at Rare Earth are now putting out the majority of the smoke. Traffic is still very congested. If you can delay driving to the area, please do so.

Please avoid Dog Bar, LaBarr Meadows and Hwy 49 in the area. IC is reporting good progress, a wet line and a hoselay around 3/4 of the fire is completed. Some of the piles at Rare Earth have caught on fire and will require extensive overhaul and mop-up.

Containment efforts on the fire are hampered by erratic winds, additional engines are arriving on scene.

IC reports new spot fires and older ones rekindling, firefighters are working 4 spots and the main fire right now. LaBarr Meadows and Dog Bar Road are under traffic control and may be closed shortly.

The fire is burning at a moderate rate of spread. There are no evacuations at this time. Tanker 89 is being released. One way traffic control with the northbound lane closed.
