The Trailhead Fire transitioned to a local Type 4 command Sunday night. As the fire is now 98% contained this will be the last update for this fire.

Please drive slowly and use caution on roadways as crews will continue repair work along the perimeter and on roads and dozer lines. Suppression repair includes putting in erosion mitigation measures, like waterbars, which divert the flow of water off the fire line, and chipping, which aids in the revegetation of recently burned areas.

Fire fighters are finalizing their work to identify any remaining heat along the line. Firefighters will continue to patrol the line and keep a look out for hot spots within the interior. Unburned islands of vegetation inside the perimeter will continue to burn in the coming days, and residents and visitors in the area should expect to see smoke.

A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will begin work on July 13.

Progress on the fire was aided significantly by the fuels reduction efforts adjacent to the burned area. Fuels reduction slows the progress of a wildland fire and provides a defensible space from which firefighters can fight a fire.

The Fire will transition to a local Type 4 command at 6 pm, today, July 10th. Crews will remain in place and updates will continue until the fire is 100% contained, and then be generated as needed. Progress on the fire was aided significantly by the fuels reduction efforts adjacent to the burned area. Repair along the entire perimeter and continues. A grader worked along Bottle Hill Road yesterday to help bring the road to proper function. Dozer and hand lines used to fight the fire and constructed as contingency line are required to be refurbished. Suppression repair includes putting in erosion mitigation measures, like waterbars, which divert the flow of water off the fire line, and chipping, which aids in the revegetation of recently burned areas.

Fire activity limited to smoking stumpholes and consuming heavy fuels.

Fire will transition to a local Type 4 IC at 6pm on July 10th. Crews will continue to mop up to the degree necessary to maintain containment lines, patrol and back haul supplies off the line. Suppression repair crews will continue to make repairs as needed in the fire area.

Another good night on the fire. Focus is shifting to the rehabilitation phase of the fire. Firefighters are mopping up, backhauling equipment and hose lines, and starting to rehabilitate firelines.

As of this morning, 72 engines, 15 water tenders, 49 crews, 22 dozers, 8 helicopters and air tankers as needed are assigned to the fire.

The fire was quiet overnight, continuing to back toward the river on its southwestern edge. Firefighters continue to focus on strengthening that last open piece of line while mopping up around the rest of t he fire. Mop up (identifying and extinguishing hot spots that could flare up and threaten containment ) will continue for some time and presents specific challenges to firefighters, including fire-weakened trees, snags, and stump holes. Crews mop up inside containment lines only to the depth (distance from the fire line) that will assure that t he fire does not cross those lines. Unburned islands of vegetation inside the perimeter will continue to burn in the coming days, and residents and visitors in the area should expect to see smoke.

All evacuations on the El Dorado County side of the fire were lifted as of 5pm today, July 5, 2016. Fire traffic is still heavy as firefighters work to fully contain the fire. The most active portion of the fire continued to be the southwest corner as crews have completed firing operations down to the Middle Fork of the American River but there remains a portion of unburned fuels along the river’s edge. The fire is anticipated to reach the river tonight or midday tomorrow. Firefighters will monitor the perimeter overnight.

The fire was well relatively quiet along the the northern, eastern, southeastern portions of the fire where crews focused on mop-up and repairs. Suppression repair consists of installing water bars and berms along constructed fireline. The berms and bars will direct the flow of rainfall off the line in order to avoid erosion problems. Montana Study Group Looks Into Smoke Levels Faced By Wildland Firefighters

Some things are standard on wildfires: hand crews digging line, helicopters in the air, engines on standby for structure defense, sawyers wielding chainsaws, and lots of smoke in the air. Research groups aren’t typically part of that landscape, unless you were on the Trailhead Fire this past week.

A small group from the National Technology and Development Center in Missoula, MT, recently was attached to the Trailhead Fire for several days to get a glimpse at the amount smoke wildland firefighters are exposed to during various phases of suppression efforts.

“We measure the smoke concentration in the air and compare it to standard health benchmarks,” said Kathleen Navarro, one of four researchers with the group. “We’re looking to see what the levels [of particulates and carbon monoxide] are, what are the averages for that particular task. That’s what makes this project different, because [every firefighter] works in a different environment based on their job that day.”

The researchers are in the second year of the study and travel from fire to fire—four so far this year—and seek out volunteers who are willing to wear the small apparatuses used to monitor different variables.

“Crews are open to participating,” team member Zane Cuthill said. “Sometimes you get the reluctant type, but overall, they’re engaged. They think ‘That pertains to my physical health,’ and they want to help.”

The devices used to monitor particulate matter in the air, carbon monoxide levels, and firefighters’ steps and vertical travel. In total, the added gear weighs about a pound and attaches to the packs used for carrying safety gear and radios. Data from two of these components can be downloaded and analyzed using an iPad in the team’s ad hoc office—a 6 by 12 foot utility trailer that’s been dragged across the country chasing fires in the West during summers, and prescribed burns in the Southeast in the winter. The CO monitor and the ActiCal device (think heavy duty Fitbit) can provide almost real-time readings, while the particulates are captured in a filter, which must be sent back to the lab to determine exposure levels. Other elements the team measures include relative humidity, temperature, GPS location, and air pressure.

There also is a unit set up at base camp that monitors similar factors in the area firefighters sleep.

The team tracks and monitors three volunteers a day and will not monitor the same person twice but might spend several days getting readings from different members of the same crew depending on the willingness of the volunteer base.

The research crew is small and packs light in order to maintain mobility and the ability to transition from fire to fire as new starts ignite and new opportunities present themselves.

The fire was most active today at the southwestern corner as crews carefully burned to containment lines, bringing fire slowly to the river and reducing the chance that it will cross the river. They will continue that burn tonight, as conditions permit.

Crews around the rest of the fire began to mop up, identifying and extinguishing any remaining hot spots that could compromise the firelines. They will continue that work tonight. Mop up presents some safety challenges to firefighters, as stump holes and snags are common in the burned area.

Interior pockets of fuel continue to ignite and burn, and residents and visitors in the area will likely see smoke inside containment lines regularly in the coming days.

Effective at 8pm on Monday, July 4, 2016, the MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER for the residents in the areas of Volcanoville, Buckeye Point, and Kentucky Flat has been reduced to a VOLUNTARY EVACUATION ORDER. Roads associated with the evacuation will be opened to residents with identification only. Residents are asked not to attempt to get access prior to 8pm as fire traffic is extremely heavy on the road.

The fire is still active in the area, and residents should be ready to evacuate again if the order is raised to mandatory. Please refer to the El Dorado County sheriff’s information website for the most updated evacuation information (pio.edso.org).

Please be aware that fire equipment and personnel will remain in the area. Smoke will be visible for the coming days as islands of unburned vegetation continue to ignite inside the containment lines.

On the Placer County side of the fire, lines held well and crews are backhauling equipment from firelines and monitoring the fire. Residents of Todd Valley remain under an evacuation advisory today, and should be aware of still-active fire line on the opposite side of the American River.

On the El Dorado County side of the fire, the fire was relatively quiet along the river, with all lines holding well overnight. Crews are monitoring carefully for spot fires over the river, and will work today to further secure containment lines. The fire is most active in these areas in the afternoon, as winds shift to an upslope, up canyon pattern. Containment lines west of Volcanoville also held well overnight. Residents in the Volcanoville, Buckeye Point, and Kentucky Flat areas will remain under mandatory evacuation today to ensure that lines hold when tested by normal daytime wind patterns.

The fire was most active overnight in southwest corner (west of Bottle Hill). It continued to flank west across the slope, and firefighters worked to stay ahead of it. This area has been prepared for firing operations, and firefighters will use the favorable winds during the day to strengthen containment lines adjacent to New Orleans Gulch.

Weather conditions today are expected to be similar to yesterday. Predictable conditions and the stable atmosphere continues to help firefighters. Settling smoke in the canyons may affect air quality.

The increase in size was not caused by natural fire growth but by last night’s burnout operation.

The fire was moderately active today. Crews did not detect any additional spot fires on the north side of the fireline (Smith Ranch west to Jesse Canyon). From Smith Ranch to Buckeye Point, firefighters mopped up as far as 100 feet from the line. Despite receiving heavy smoke from other areas of the fire, the east side near Volcanoville was relatively inactive. Successful burnout operations from previous shifts have established a wide buffer between the main fire and unburned vegetation, helping to protect the residences in Volcanoville. Crews on the south side of the fire continued burnout operations, mopped up fireline, and started assessing dozer line for repair work. Aircraft assisted firefighters by dropping water and retardant, mainly on the southern side.

The priority for crews working the night shift is the southeast side of the fire from Cement Hill west to New Orleans Gulch and north to the Middle Fork of the American River. Their goal is to hold and secure the line, preventing the fire from crossing over the American River. They plan to use favorable weather condtions to burnout along existing firelines if necessary. Elsewhere around the fire, firefighters will patrol, hold, and secure containment lines.

Weather conditions remain very stable and will be similar to last night. Humidity recovery tonight will be moderate, around 50 percent, and the temperature will be in the low 60s. Winds will be around 4 mph with gusts up to 7 mph. Upslope, upcanyon wids will shift to downslope, downcanyon around 8 pm.

No structures have been damaged or destroyed by the Trailhead Fire. On the Placer County side of the fire, all containment lines lines held well overnight. Crews continue to patrol and monitor fire lines carefully, and to mop up fire lines to ensure that the fire near t hem is out. They will continue today. Residents in Todd Valley remain under a voluntary evacuation, and should remain vigilant as there is still open line fire line across the narrow, steep American River canyon. The Red Cross has now closed the evacuation shelter on the Placer County side of the fire but are prepared to reopen if needed.

On the El Dorado County side of the fire, firefighters worked overnight, using favorable night time temperatures and higher humidity to fire off of existing containment lines. They have now completed line from west of Jakeys Hill west to Buckeye Point and eventually to the river. Several type one hand crews [Hotshots) also worked to burn down to the river bottom to lower the energy of the fire as it backs toward t he river, lessening the chance that it will cross the river and run up the dry, south-facing slope opposite. Those crews remained at the river overnight to continue to monitor and hold the fire. Several spot fires were observed, but firefighters were able to pick them up and hold the fire at the American River, an important operational objective. They will continue that work today.

In the Volcanoville area, crews continued to strengthen lines west of the community, and to assess and triage structures in the areas around Volcanoville, Kentucky Flat and Bottle Hill. They will work to hold and improve lines today. A mandatory evacuation order is in effect for these areas.

Yesterday, crews strengthened and reinforced containment lines across Missouri Canyon south toward Breedlove Road, and then turned west toward Little Bald Mountain, working around . Crews conducted firing operations off this line, strengthening the containment line to over 1000′ in some places. The fire s.

Weather conditions today are expected to be similar to yesterday. Predictable conditions and the stable atmosphere is helping firefighters, with terrain-driven winds moving upslope, up canyon by mid-morning, and down slope, down-canyon by the evening. The only campground directly affected by the fire is Dru Barner in the Georgetown Ranger District which is within the closure area. No roads or campgrounds are closed in the Tahoe National Forest due to this fire. Placer County mandatory evacuations have been downgraded to advisory. Only residents with photo ID will be allowed beyond the staffed roadblocks. Residents are advised that there is still active fire and uncontained fireline across the river canyon. The evacuation order could be elevated to mandatory at any time; be ready and prepared. Residents should be aware of increased traffic due to firefighters and equipment in the Todd Valley area.

An advisory evacuation order is in place for all homes east of Green Ridge Road to Oakwood Lane to Nugget Drive, Skyview Terrace Mobile Home Park, Oak Wood Court, Vinewood Court, Trail Head Court, Green Pine Court, Alton Trail Court, Gray Court, Tevis Court, and White Tail Court and homes to the west of the above.

Smoke from the fire itself and from burnout operations was very visible today. The fire was most active on the southeast side, near Quartz Canyon and Little Bald Mountain, and on the northeast side near Volcanoville. It is not active on the north side. The fire grew by less than 200 acres today. No structures have been damaged or destroyed.

Crews had a very productive day fighting the fire. Aircraft supported firefighters on the ground with water and retardant drops. Weather conditions allowed firefighters on the north and east sides of the fire to conduct burnout operations and strengthen contingency lines, protecting the communities of Foresthill and Volcanoville. Burning from a fireline toward the main fire creates a buffer between the active fire front and unburned vegetation outside the line, which increases the liklihood that the fire will not cross those lines.

Tonight crews will finish burnout operations started by the day shift. Other priorities for firefighters tonight are to patrol, hold, and improve existing containment lines; secure firelines around structures; and prepare areas for crews to conduct burnout operations tomorrow.

Firefighters deal with diurnal wind shifts on a daily basis: around 10:00 in the morning winds tend to shift to upcanyon, upslope, and around 10:00 in the evening, they shift to downcanyon, downslope. This is one factor that influences the direction the fire will spread. The direction of fire spread responds to these changes in wind direction. This is a reliable weather phenomenon that firefighters can use to their advantage in planning burnout operations. They light fire in strips along an existing line and allow the wind to push fire to the fireline. By gradually burning out vegetation, they are able to widen the line so it can control the oncoming fire.

Downslope, downcanyon winds tonight wll be around 4 mph, gusting to 7 mph. The temperature will be in the 60s and the relative humidity around 40 percent.

As of 6am this morning, no structures have been damaged or destroyed by the Trailhead Fire. On the Placer County side, crews were able to complete and strengthen lines to prevent fire spread up Peachstone Gulch, and contingency lines are in place to protect the community of Todd Valley. The former mandatory evacuation in the area was reduced to voluntary at 9pm on July 1, 2016. Please bring ID to pass the checkpoints as only residents are allowed into the area. Residents are advised that there is still active fire and open fire line across the river canyon, and the evacuation order could be elevated to mandatory at any time. In addition, residents should watch for fire equipment in the Todd Valley area.

Firefighters made good progress last night conducting defensive firing operations in the area west of Volcanoville toward Buckeye Point to protect the community as the active fire front approaches containment lines. Hot, dry conditions, and difficult terrain challenge firefighters, and crews anticipate another busy shift. The community of Volcanoville, and the surrounding area, remains under a mandatory evacuation order to protect public and firefighter safety. Firefighters will also continue constructing line down toward the Middle Fork of the American River today, as conditions allow.

Crews continue to build indirect line to the south and west down the Hornblende Mountains and toward the river in preparation for defensive firing to begin. The steep, narrow American River canyon is a major concern, and a priority today is keeping fire on the southeast side of the river. Firefighters are using favorable night time conditions, with cooler temperatures and downslope winds, to conduct firing operations, and the public should be aware of increased fire activity and smoke during these times.

Weather conditions today are expected to be similar to yesterday, with terrain-driven winds moving upslope, up canyon by mid-morning, and down slope, down-canyon by the evening. Slightly cooler temperatures and increased atmospheric stability may help firefighters today. Settling smoke in the canyons may affect air quality. The only campground directly affected by the fire is Dru Barner in the Georgetown Ranger District which is within the fire closure area. No roads or campgrounds are closed in the Tahoe National Forest due to this fire.

On the Placer County side, crews were able to complete and strengthen lines to prevent fire spread up Peachstone Gulch, and contingency lines are in place to protect the community of Todd Valley. The fire continues to be active in the afternoon in the Otter Creek drainage on the south and east sides of the fire. The fire made a run to the east up Jakey’s Hill toward Volcanoville. Fire activity lessened in the evening. Crews constructed and improved dozer and handlines on both the south and east sides of the fire. On the south side of the fire, north of Bottle Hill Road defensive firing operations were accomplished in the Otter Creek drainage to reinforce the constructed lines by removing fuel between the road and the active edge of the fire. Crews assessed and worked on structure protection measures in the Volcanoville and Buckeye areas.

The only campground directly affected by the fire is Dru Barner in the Georgetown Ranger District which is within the closure area. No roads or campgrounds are closed in the Tahoe National Forest due to this fire. Have a safe Fourth of July weekend.

Fire Behavior Specialist Matt Brown reports no break in the heat and low humidities. No large scale changes in weather pattern are forecast, which is a positive note. The daily wind shifts, when the sun hits the terrain, are mostly up canyon flows starting at 10 am and down canyon at 9 pm.

Eric Patterson the Branch Chief on the Eldorado side reported very active fire behavior on that side, including spotting. Dozen lines from Buckeye Road down to the river have been completed. Firing operations are planned when weather conditions are favorable. Most of today’s growth was once again on the Eldorado side.

The only campground on the Eldorado National Forest directly affected by this fire is Dru Barner campground which is within the closure area. Crews on the south side of the American River made good progress overnight constructing dozer line south adjacent to New Orleans Gulch. Their goal today is to tie line back towards Bottle Hill. The fire was most active overnight on the Hornblende Mountains, bumping the road along the ridge. Fire is established in Otter Creek, and crews overnight made good progress on constructing line from the Otter Creek drainage north to Jakey’s Hill, and then to Buckeye Point and ultimately to the river. A priority today is to complete and strengthen that line to protect structures in Volcanoville. Structure protection assessment will also be occurring in the Volcanoville and Buckeye areas. The fire continues to burn in extremely steep, rugged terrain. Crews may take advantage of more favorable night time conditions to conduct strategic firing operations. Weather conditions are predicted to remain about the same through the weekend, with upslope, up canyon winds in the late morning through early evening, and downslope, down canyon winds at night.

Air quality in El Dorado County is currently being impacted by the Trailhead Fire and other fires in the state. County health officials are reminding residents to take precautions should wildfire smoke impact the areas in which they live, work and recreate. According to Dave Johnston, El Dorado County Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Air Pollution Control Officer, wildfires in the County and region can produce smoke that causes health problems, particularly for children, older people and those with heart disease or respiratory issues.

The fire became more active today as the inversion lifted at approximately 1 pm. Crews made good progress on the Placer side of the fire today, completing direct line across the west and northwestern edges of the fire. They also completed contingency lines and will continue to plan for contingencies and community protection on both the north and south sides of the fire. Fire crossed the line south and west of Ford’s Bar, and firefighters began constructing indirect line down the New Orleans Creek drainage to the east toward Bottle Hill on the south. Crews made good progress on indirect line southeast of the Hornblende Mountains, using retardant drops along the ridgeline from Very Large Air Tankers (VLATS) to cool the fire as it approached the line. They also worked on indirect line from Jakey’s Hill toward Buckeye Point, with the intent to tie the line back into the river. The fire did continue to get established in the Otter Creek drainage, and due to the one way road and increased fire activity, evacuations in Volcanoville were upgraded from voluntary to mandatory. Aircraft assigned to the Trailhead Fire also supported the suppression of two new fires; one three miles west of the Georgetown Incident Command Post, and another roadside start in the Foresthill area, near Lake Clementine. Both starts were contained quickly.

AUBURN, Calif (June 30, 2016) — The Placer County Public Health Officer and Placer County Air Pollution Control District are issuing a joint air quality advisory to notify the public of poor air quality conditions primarily due to smoke from the Trailhead Fire in Placer and El Dorado Counties. Areas of smoke may affect Placer County from the valley to the Lake Tahoe area, dependent upon wind direction, until the fire is extinguished. In the evenings, smoke tends to move downhill becoming more concentrated in lower elevation areas including the foothills and the Lake Tahoe region. In the afternoon and early evening hours, conditions may improve as smoke rises. Smoke contains very tiny particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs. While all people may experience varying degrees of symptoms, the more sensitive individuals, such as young, aged and those with respiratory conditions are of greatest risk of experiencing more aggravated symptoms. Symptoms may include, but are not limited to coughing, watery and itchy eyes, scratchy throat and difficulty in breathing. Intermittent smoke is likely to affect different parts of the county at different times of the day until the fire is extinguished.  Because of this, individuals should be aware that it is possible for smoke to affect both indoor and outdoor activities.  If you can see or smell smoke, avoid all unnecessary outdoor activities, especially if you are in an area where visibility is greatly reduced. Here are recommended ways to reduce your smoke exposure:

• Stay indoors with the windows and doors closed; if possible run the air conditioner on the “recirculation” setting
• Limit outdoor exertion and physical activity
• Leave the smoke-impacted areas until conditions improve, if possible
• Reduce unnecessary driving. If traveling through smoke-impacted areas, be sure that your vehicle’s ventilation system is on recirculate
• Avoid the use of non‐HEPA paper face mask filters, which are not capable of filtering out extra fine particulates

Anyone experiencing questionable or severe symptoms should contact their doctor if they have any questions. Keep in mind that air quality can change rapidly at different times during the day due to wind shifts; therefore, it is important to monitor the smoke throughout the day in your area and make outdoor plans accordingly. Yesterday, crews on the north side of the Middle Fork of the American River worked to construct containment line on the west and southwest sides of the fire, constructing line from Peachstone Gulch north up the Western States Trail to protect the communities of Todd Valley and Foresthill. Work will continue on that today. Contingency lines are also being constructed to further protect those communities. On the southside of the American River, Spot fires along the south side of Otter Creek occurred yesterday with the afternoon arrival of upcanyon winds. Steep, inaccessible terrain in Otter Creek made firefighting in the drainage too dangerous, and crews will work today to build indirect from Fords Bar south to Bottle Hill and then east along the Hornblend Mountains, towards Jakeys’ Hill. The firefighters will also scout and construct line northwest from Jakeys Hill northwest toward Buckeye Point, tying back into the Middle Fork of the American River to protect the community of Volcanoville. As of 9:00 am this morning, a VOLUNTARY EVACUATION has been issued for the community of Volcanoville. Weather today is predicted to be similar to yesterday, with hot, dry conditions prevailing. Afternoon winds are predicted to be similar to yesterday.

Working closely in Unified Command, CAL FIRE and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) fire crews worked throughout the day to construct control lines around the fire. Heavy use of aircraft including air tankers, helicopters and air attack command and control aircraft helped in keeping the fire to approximately 1,000 acres. Firefighting personnel were able to make progress in limiting further spread on the Foresthill side of the river. The fire, burning in a larger area on the Eldorado National Forest side of the river, burned at times aggressively throughout the day. Both the Placer and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Departments imposed additional mandatory evacuation zones in an effort to protect residents in advance of the danger. The fire is now burning south of Otter Creek which is what prompted evacuations in El Dorado County. Northern California Interagency Team II is on forest and transitioning to take command of the incident.

Air Quality Health Advisory for sensitive groups – high ozone forecast Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30, 2016 in Western Nevada County Ozone concentrations are expected to reach the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range on Wednesday and Thursday, June 29th and 30th in Western Nevada County. Due to the combination of high temperatures, mild winds from the Sacramento region, poor atmospheric dispersion and an abundance of ozone precursors (NOx and VOCs) associated with the Trailhead Fire in Placer County, ozone is likely to increase throughout the day on Wednesday and remain high Wednesday evening. Levels are likely to drop early Thursday morning, but then increase again by Thursday afternoon. In addition, an intermittent haze of smoke from the Trailhead Fire may exacerbate the health effects of ozone at times. Sensitive Groups (those most at risk from exposure to ground level ozone) are typically comprised of individuals who may be elderly, children, asthmatics, adults with pre-existing heart and lung disease, pregnant women and people who are exercising outdoors. Exposure to unhealthful ozone concentrations can result in eye and throat irritation, headaches, nausea, shortness of breath, congestion, coughing, impaired lung function and chest pain. Sensitive individuals are advised to avoid prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion, especially during the late afternoon and evening.

The Trailhead Fire is being managed under unified command by CALFIRE and the U.S. Forest Service. The fire continued to burn through the night, though without significant growth. Crews working night operations took direct and indirect action, putting in hand and dozer line through steep terrain. Dense vegetation and heavy timber has made progress difficult and dangerous. A significant augmentation of resources including hand crews, dozers, engines and aircraft will occur throughout the day.  Aircraft will take advantage of all opportunities for air operations. Law Enforcement will continue to patrol the area, maintaining road blocks and evacuation areas as necessary. A Type 2 Incident Management Team is en route.  Additional updates will be made available as the incident develops. While the fire is still under investigation, investigaotrs are asking for the public’s help for any information about how the fire started. June 28, 2016 at 5:00 PM Red Cross is monitoring this fire & is on standby for potential sheltering requests. Air Attack 230 reports the fire is doing well on the Placer side. The fire is hung up on the retardant line and helitack crews are starting to attack the fire from the flank. The spots on the Eldorado side are 20-25 acres. The fire is well established and the greatest potential for spread is on the Eldorado side.

June 28, 2016 at 4:32 PM Dozers are on order to the fire. They can cut line at the top of the ridge. Combined with retardant drops, this can slow or stop the progress. Placer County Sheriff deputies are continuing with evacuations. Please stay out of the area, lots of heavy equipment on the move.

June 28, 2016 at 4:02 PM Fire is still in the canyon but is burning towards Todd Valley. Likely to get out of the canyon at Todd Valley. Firefighters are staging at Todd Valley Road, prepositioning resources to attempt to halt the progress of the fire.

June 28, 2016 at 3:58 PM  Fire is on the Middle Fork, column is bending towards the north. Spots are on the El Dorado side of the river. Air Attack is hopeful they will be able to catch the fire on top of the ridge after sundown.
