There is no danger to either the community of Rough&Ready or Grass Valley. Firefighters are working in very steep terrain with heavy brush (manzanita etc) that has to be removed to create a line around the fire.

Heavy smoke in the area is not only from the Vista Fire, drift smoke from the Delta Fire has settled all over the Foothills.

September 11, 2018 at 5:23 AM

Firefighters conducted several smoke checks in the area, starting at 10:30 pm last night in the areas of Ridge Road and Rough&Ready Highway. The was was located around 00:42 am near the bottom of Slate Creek.

Several crews and a dozer are working to complete the line around the fire. The fire started in the Slate Creek drainage and burned uphill towards Vista Ave and behind the Twin Cities Church. Minimal fire behavior and there is no threat to structures, no evacuations or road closures.

  1. I’m not coming up with Vista St. in my map search. Is this Buena Vista St. in GV? We can smell smoke at Bitney Springs & Newtown Rd. Thanks.

    1. It is Vista Avenue and it is in the Slate Creek drainage. Take a look at the map we just posted.

  2. Thanks, as always, for doing a great job of reporting.

However, I am wondering why road names don’t appear on the fire maps that you post. I seem to recall they used to show road names. It’s handy to have them.
