The Corta Fire is 98 percent contained and 16,526 acres. The incident is located 10 miles southeast of Jiggs, Nevada.

In the past few days, crews have put in hand-line to contain the fire, the southern end being the priority. Dozer line, from earlier suppression tactics, has been rehabilitated around the perimeter.

The Burned Area Emergency Response Team from the U.S. Forest Service has been evaluating the fire for the past few days to determine next steps to determine post-fire rehabilitation efforts.

Elko County Road 718 (Harrison Pass Road) is OPEN to thru traffic only, beginning August 10, 2019, between Elko County Road 717 (Huntington Road) and South Ruby Valley Road. The public is advised to avoid The Green Mountain Trailhead which provides access to the Ruby Crest Trail, fire traffic continues to be heavy along Harrison Pass Road.

The fire is at 85 percent containment and remains at 16,889 acres. The incident is located 10 miles southeast of Jiggs, Nevada.

Accurate mapping using an Unmanned Aerial System, UAS, has allowed for very specific mapping capturing the newest acreage burned.

The south flank of the fire remains the priority, crews have been bringing hand-line together from the west and east to reach full containment.

Firefighters continued to patrol the north and northeast edges of the fire today as well as rehabilitating dozer and hand-line. Along the eastern edge, crews completed suppression repair of the dozer and hand-lines, where line was cut to contain the fire. Across the southern edge, handcrews and hotshots continued to put in hand-line from the west and east.

Firefighters patrol along the western edge near the Zaga and Little ranches to ensure all hot spots are out.

Crews will mop up and secure the fire’s edge on the southern end of the fire. Crews and air resources will look for areas of opportunity to go direct in the pine, aspen and mahogany stringers, along with unburned islands to secure the perimeter and achieve containment. Will need to utilize air resources to achieve this goal.

Firefighters and aircraft have actively secured line around the Corta fire for the past several days. Recent heavy rains in the past 48 hours have significantly reduced fire activity.

The fire is 16,533 acres and is 70 percent contained. The incident is located 10 miles southeast of Jiggs, Nevada.

The fire has been the most active along its south and southeast flanks in the Pearl Creek drainage. Hotshots and hand crews have been hiking into the steep terrain of Pearl Creek to connect hand-line in this section of the fire.

“Extreme fire weather warnings, severe winds and heavy rains have all been challenging in our daily operations of this fire,” Vanessa Marquez, Corta Fire Incident Commander Trainee said.

“Firefighters and support personnel have continued to deliver results on this incident. Their efforts on the ground and flexibility has allowed us to be successful in securing a perimeter around the fire,” Marquez said.

Today, firefighters will focus efforts on the southern edges of the fires to secure the hand-line in the Pearl Creek drainage. Crews will continue to mop-up and monitor around the fire perimeter.
