PSPS update: Due to improving weather conditions, 83,000 customers originally expected to lose power for safety are no longer part of this Public Safety Power Shutoff. Power will NOT be shut off in El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sierra, Yuba and the Guerneville area of Sonoma County

PG&E has opened two Community Resource Centers (CRC) which will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. through full re-energization.
The CRCs will provide restrooms, bottled water, electronic device charging stations, non-perishable snacks, ice, blankets upon request, and warm venue.
Locations include:
• Sierra College: 250 Sierra College Dr, Grass Valley, CA
• Nevada City Elks Lodge: 518 CA-49, Nevada City, CA

County facilities will be open if a PSPS event is implemented. County services in the following offices are continuing as usual, although some services may be limited due to access to power:

PG&E Moving Forward with Shutting Off Power for Safety, Impacting About 150,000 Customers in Portions of 18 Counties. PG&E stated shutoffs are expected to include approximately 150,000 customers in 18 counties: Amador, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama, Yolo and Yuba. They are anticipated to begin as early as 6:00 a.m. Wednesday for many customers; customers in other locations may not be impacted until around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. The expectation is that the weather will clear around mid-morning Thursday, allowing the patrol and restoration process to begin.

PG&E CEO talked about the “upcoming PSPS” during this evening’s briefing, confirming the shutoff. The Incident Commander for the utility confirmed the shutoff time for Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, Yuba, Sierra and Butte counties to start at 7:00 am on Wednesday morning. The “all clear” is still expected to be given on Thursday at 8 am, with 5,500 ground crews and 45 helicopters ready to inspect all the lines. PG&E has also requested the use of a fixed-wing aircraft with nighttime IR capabilities. PG&E is planning to notify all impacted customers by this evening of the planned shutoff.

While there is considerable uncertainty regarding the strength, timing and humidity levels associated with this weather system, the shutoff is currently expected to impact approximately 181,000 customers in the following 16 counties:

PG&E has communicated an update in potential PSPS timing. De-energization for Nevada County is now anticipated to be conducted at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. The “weather all clear” is still expected to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

If PG&E decides to implement a PSPS Wednesday afternoon, areas of Grass Valley should still have power. PG&E plans to use generators at their substation to re-energize skilled nursing facilities, the hospital, & businesses.

Elevated PSPS potential for the middle part of next week, according to PG&E. After showing all clear this morning, the latest PG&E weather forecast shows a elevated PSPS potential for Wednesday and Thursday in our area. At this time, no decision has been made if a PSPS is warranted and should be implemented.
