LOS ANGELES, CA, April 4, 2017  – The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the largest California-based immigrant rights organization, called on companies submitting bids to the federal government by this afternoon to build a wall on the US/Mexico border to build a moral compass instead for the Trump  Administration.   CHIRLA called on President Trump to stop persecuting immigrant families and stop wasting tax-payer dollars on ineffective structures.

The following are statements for Angelica Salas, executive director for CHIRLA.

As the first deadline approaches for construction companies to submit bids to add to the existing US/Mexico border structure, we ask instead the Trump Administration to request bids for a moral compass it desperately needs.

Instead of investing millions of tax-payer dollars on a failed strategy, we call on President Trump to build bridges in Congress to introduce and pass fair and humane immigration reform.

Instead of separating and deporting immigrant families and signing executive orders which violate our constitution, we ask President Trump to assemble the brightest legal scholars, advocates, business owners, and US-born children of immigrant men and women and ask how the US can help best integrate them into American society.

Instead of more bricks, cement, lasers, moats, and barbed wired, we ask President Trump to help construct a new America where the actions of our leaders are in sync with the values, history, and vision of its people.

  1. “… we ask President Trump to help construct a new America where the actions of our leaders are in sync with the values, history, and vision of its people.” I’m sorry, but as grandmother used to say when a grandchild asked for too much: “When pigs fly.”
