WASHINGTON, Aug. 8, 2019 – The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), America’s foremost civil rights organization, and the Mississippi State Conference of the NAACP released the following statement in response to the recent ICE raids in Mississippi ordered by President Donald Trump:

The Trump Administration’s decision to separate nearly 700 parents who are working and contributing to their communities from their children is horrific. It is the mark of an administration devoid of moral character. At a time when the President should be working to promote unity and heal division in our country, these raids will sow fear, pain, and discord across our already wounded country. Instead of ripping families apart, we should be providing opportunities for these hardworking individuals to earn a pathway to citizenship.

The NAACP is the nation’s oldest, largest and most widely recognized grassroots–based civil rights organization. Its more than half-million members and supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors. www.naacp.net
