Proceeds from this event will go towards community and Veteran outreach and support programs, such as the annual backpack and school supplies donated to local families in need.
This year, 40 backpacks and supplies were donated, and next year, the goal is to expand the program to 75. Other programs include toys for families at Christmas, sponsoring youth sporting teams, and case by case basis of those in need for trips to places like Washington DC or New York through their schools.
The dinner cost is $10.00 in advance, or $15.00 at the door, per ticket, children ages 4 and under are free. There will be 2 door prizes for supporting this fundraiser, as well as many items donated from local businesses up for drawing with purchases of drawing tickets, as well as a firearm drawing, and a 50/50 drawing (winner gets 50% of ticket sales).
The menu will consist of both a meat and vegetarian sauce, garden style salad, and garlic bread, with dessert. Juice is free to all, the Post Canteen (bar) is open, prices are $5 and under. The VFW is located at 415 N Pine Street in Nevada City. Social hour begins at 4 PM, with dinner service at 5 PM.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars is a Non-Profit Organization, made up of veterans of foreign wars, conflicts, and certain other duties considered high risk (such as West Germany after WWII, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, or being stationed in Korea, post Korean War), and is solely a volunteer group. This allows individual VFW Posts to use the vast majority of donations and funds in community and Veteran support programs, no one at a Post level gets paid a single dime. The purpose of this corporation (VFW) shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable, and educational; to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and fidelity to its institutions of American freedom, and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomsoever. VFW Post 2655 in Nevada City prides itself on its mission of helping the community we live in, be they Veteran or civilian citizens.
The mission of the VFW Post 2655 is expanding. The Post would like to expand all current programs such as the annual backpack and school supply donations, the toy donations, and various smaller support. Post 2655 is forming a scholarship committee, and has the goal of giving monetary scholarships to those selected in both the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen VFW National scholarship essay competition. To be able to do all these things, the Post needs to rely on the support of our very giving community, and this will be the first of many fundraising endeavors to accomplish our mission. Those interested in attending the Spaghetti Dinner can contact Post Commander William Buck at (530)913-2310 or at williambuck8.5@gmail.com for tickets, or to give donations. Lastly, if you have any suggestions on projects to better our community, please email them to me. Thank you for supporting the Nevada City VFW in bettering our community and helping those in need, in advance!
Respectfully,
William Buck
