National Public Safety Telecommunications Week is a week dedicated to honoring and appreciating all 911 dispatchers. NCSO 911 dispatchers serve all of Nevada County and dispatch calls for Grass Valley Police Department, Nevada City Police Department and Truckee Police Department, in addition to the Sheriff’s Office and Nevada County Probation.

NCSO Dispatchers maintain radio and telephone communication between the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department and law enforcement, fire protection, and emergency service personnel within Nevada County. Multitasking and calm under pressure are prerequisites for the job.
Dispatchers also forward calls for medical or fire to the Grass Valley Emergency Command Center (ECC) where CAL FIRE and Tahoe National Forest Service dispatchers send resources to structure, car and vegetation fires, have fire departments and ambulance services respond to accidents and medical calls.
When you call 911, these first first responders assess the situation to provide the service you need. Their questions are designed to provide the responding agencies with as much information as possible. Answer their questions, report what you see, give a precise location i.e. street address and a cross street. Especially if you are calling from a cell phone, make sure you give the dispatcher your location.
Each of the agencies is planning a themed day of recognition during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week and will be surprising dispatchers with coffee and donut mornings, gourmet sandwich lunches and more.
