“Help – I need a Doctor” will be the topic for the AAUW Nevada County Branch monthly program on Saturday, January 18th. Find out about the Sierra Nevada Family Medicine Residency Program, which is an accredited program aimed at attracting, training, and retaining family medicine resident physicians to rural Nevada County. The Program is a partnership of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital (SNMH), Dignity Health Methodist Hospital in Sacramento, and Chapa-De Indian Health.

Dr. Glenn Gookin, Director of the Sierra Nevada Family Medicine Residency Program, will be the featured speaker at the January 18th meeting. He co-wrote the grant enabling the rural residency program’s start in 2018. Dr. Gookin will be joined by Dr. Nicholas Sparr, one of the program’s first resident physicians in the midst of training. They will present how the Sierra Nevada Family Medicine Residency Program concept began, how it is working now, and the future goal of training the next generation of family physicians in Nevada County.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held 9:30-11:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main Street, Grass Valley. Local radio station KNCO and Westamerica Bank are sponsoring the program.
