The AAUW Meeting March 15, 9:30 – 11:30, at Peace Lutheran Church, focusing on Women’s Rights in 2025, has been rescheduled to Saturday April 12. Other than the date, all details remain the same.
National Women’s History Month provides a perfect opportunity to take stock of the status of women in this chaotic time. What gains and strides have been made in recent history? What rights have been lost or are in jeopardy? What advances are reversed? Most important, where do we go from here?
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Nevada County Branch’s Saturday, March 15th program will focus on “Women’s Rights in 2025: Gains, Losses, Where Do We Go from Here?” with a panel featuring guest speaker Megan Seely, Professor and Chair for the Department of Sociology, and Women and Gender and LBGT Studies Departments at Sierra College, Rocklin. She is also the Chair of the College’s Gender Equity Committee and the author of Fight Like a Girl: How to be a Fearless Feminist, NYU Press. She will discuss the current impacts on women’s rights and opportunities, especially related to education.

Additional panelists are Melanie Heckel, AAUW Nevada County Branch Public Policy Chair, and Elaine Sierra, Director of Public Policy for Citizens for Choice. The panel will discuss a broad range of topics, including education, Title IX, reproductive rights, and DEI. Panelists also will offer ideas about how to be informed, stay positive, and fight back.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held 9:30-11:30AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main Street, Grass Valley. This program is sponsored by Kim White, local Attorney.
For more than 85 years, the AAUW Nevada County Branch has been striving to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. For more information about AAUW in Nevada County, go to https://nevadacounty-ca.aauw.net.
