Chico, CA, January 5, 2018 – Audrey Denney (D-Chico) announces her candidacy for California’s 1st Congressional District, currently held by Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale). She is surrounded by extreme enthusiasm from her supporters as she launches her campaign to become the District’s first congresswoman. The campaign is already rapidly gathering pledges and contributions as constituents join in on the vision. As news of her intentions spread, full-time staff and nearly 100 core volunteers and have stepped up to elect Audrey Denney – a fresh face for congress.
Denney has a rich history in agriculture, education, and nonprofit leadership. Growing up on a family farm and ranch in Central California, she embodies the rural values of responsibility, hard work, and community. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Agricultural Education from California State University, Chico and taught agriculture at Chico State for nearly six years. Audrey is the president of the board of Cristosal, an internationally renowned human rights organization based in Central America and is in her third year as a Senior Learning Designer at Vivayic where she designs learning strategy and curriculum for worldwide agricultural organizations.
Denney moved to Chico almost 15 years ago, and fell in love with the North State. “The North State quickly became my home – the genuine people and the natural beauty can’t be beat – and it’s why we deserve leadership that’s as good as our people, someone who will actively fight for our needs and concerns in Washington,” Audrey shares. She believes partisan politics have become a sad distraction from bringing people together and finding a way forward as a community, a region, and a nation. Audrey’s contributions to the North State have proven she has the passion, skills, energy, and character to do just that.
Politics in America is changing, and voters realize we need more powerful leaders. Districts believed to be guaranteed incumbent victories are now open to challenge. Excellent democrats previously served District 1, and it’s time to return to better leadership. Audrey Denney has support from across the age, cultural, professional, and political spectrums and has proven she is up for the challenge.
Denney is ready to represent the North State as our next representative. She shares, “This campaign is about real people who live here in the first district, and the real issues you face. I want to listen to you, to understand your fears and your hopes, and to create solutions together that support you and your families.”
