Nevada County, Calif. July 28, 2020 – Nevada County Community Library continues its NEA Big Read celebration of Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel with a Nevada County Reads & Writes Finale on Friday, July 31st at 5:00 p.m.. The NEA Big Read in Nevada County is presented in partnership with Nevada County Media, Nevada County Arts Council, and Nevada County Superintendent of School, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The event will feature a discussion with the author, Emily St. John Mandel, followed by a Q&A with the public.
Nevada County Community Library County Librarian Nick Wilczek says, “It’s thrilling to bring Emily St. John Mandel – albeit virtually, to Nevada County. Her novel Station Eleven, set against the backdrop of a global pandemic, is as timely and vital now as it was upon its publication. The support of the NEA Big Read grant is vital in bringing this event to our community.”
An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book.
Nevada County is one of 78 communities nationwide participating in the NEA Big Read from September 2019-June 2020. From March 2020 our community has celebrated Station Eleven with a full calendar of events including Graphic Novel Day, Songs of the Community, and Shakespeare Reader’s Theater.
Interested community members can join the conversation via Zoom, Facebook Live, YouTube, and local access television – Comcast Channel 11 and Suddenlink Channel 16.
