Grass Valley, CA –In less than 24 hours, Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) deputies resolved two unrelated barricaded subject standoffs, both of which ended in the suspects’ arrests.
The second incident involved Star Louise Lemas, 31, of Grass Valley, who was arrested on July 30, 2025. At approximately 5:55 a.m. that same day, a 911 call came into the Sheriff’s Nevada County Regional Dispatch Center with no one seemingly on the line, along with multiple dropped 911 calls minutes later, all stemming from the same vicinity in Grass Valley.
It was reported an adult female fled from her home, fearing she would be assaulted by Lemas as she had been allegedly physically assaulted by her in the past. NCSO deputies attempted to contact Lemas at the residence, but she had barricaded herself inside. Deputies utilized one of their PA systems on a patrol vehicle to request all occupants of the residence exit. Four uninvolved individuals exited immediately upon command. However, Lemas did not.
Outside of this specific call-out, Lemas was found to have multiple out-of-county warrants for her arrest involving numerous weapons charges and narcotics charges. Several of the warrants carried no bail holds. Deputies also had reason to believe a shotgun was present in the residence, in which Lemas may have access.
For over two hours, NCSO deputies negotiated with Lemas using the PA system, encouraging her peaceful surrender. Unfortunately, Lemas refused to comply and exit the residence. With a potential armed suspect, deputies cleared the residence with assistance from Grass Valley Police Department using Drone technology before entering on foot, where it was determined Lemas was barricaded in the attic.
An NCSO Deputy notified Lemas if she failed to surrender, a chemical agent would be utilized. Lemas failed to comply and the chemical agent was released, upon which she immediately exited and surrendered. It should be noted she was not in possession of the shotgun, but it was recovered in the residence. Lemas was medically evaluated as a safety precaution and ultimately arrested for resisting/obstructing a peace officer – 148(A)(1)PC; possession of unlawful paraphernalia -11364(A) H&S; possession of a controlled substance – 11377(A) H&S; possession of a hard drug with two other priors; 11395(b) H&S as well as all of her out-of-county warrants.
Lemas is presently incarcerated at Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
