GRASS VALLEY, Calif. December 11, 2018 – A handbell choir and a vocal solo will be featured at a free mini-concert at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.
The series of free, 30-minute concerts offers relief from the rush. This week, the Bells of Peace handbell choir, under the direction of Marge Shasberger, will play fine music of the season. Alto soloist Judy Kenney’s rendition of the gospel classic “Sweet Little Jesus Boy,” made famous by Mahalia Jackson, rounds out the program. No offering will be taken; the concert is a traditional gift from Peace Lutheran Church to the community.
Following the concert, the event will transition to Holden Evening Prayer, a beautiful and moving prayer service weaving song, chant, prayer and Bible readings. These twin events help listeners prepare for a different kind of Christmas! All are welcome at both presentations.
On Dec. 19: Nationally recognized organist Walt Strony and Thomas Greathouse will perform.
Peace Lutheran Church is at 828 W. Main St., near downtown Grass Valley.
