June 27, 2017 – During the last week of June through July 1st, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit, in cooperation with the University of California Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Field Station and the Feather River Air Quality Management District will be conducting a controlled burn at the UC Field Station 8279 Scott Forbes Rd, Browns Valley, Ca.

This burn will help to convert up to 550 acres of noxious weeds to native vegetation within the field station. The actual date of the burn will be determined by the weather, fire activity, and burn day status.

The burn may have an evening portion to take advantage of more favorable weather conditions and a morning portion to allow for the complete consumption of the interior, heavy fuels. Evening ignitions will start between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. while the morning ignitions will be between 8 a.m. 10 a.m. depending on weather conditions and continue into the afternoon. Smoke will be visible from Hwy 20, Marysville Rd, Pleasant Valley Rd and surrounding communities.

Firefighters working in firing teams will work to control the fire’s intensity and ensure the fire progresses in a safe manner. Resources will continue to check the area for several days following the fires.
