GRASS VALLEY, Calif. June 7, 2017 – This year Nevada County Habitat for Humanity (NCHFH) joins forces with veteran Nevada County vintage car racers Bill and Carolyn Croker in their 1936 Packard for The Great Race. The Great Race takes vintage cars on a route from Traverse City, Michigan all the way to Jacksonville, Florida. Being run from June 24 until July 2 with set stops all along the route, racers participate in their vintage autos raising money for charities along the way.

Habitat’s race team is striving to win ACES to raise funds, and challenges other Habitat supporters to join by making a pledge. The Great Race is a timed, controlled speed, navigation, endurance rally for vintage cars.

Byers is happy to sponsor this effort which will bring attention to Habitat for Humanity as well as important funds back to our community. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Nevada County Habitat for Humanity. We know that having a home is key to a family’s stability and that our community is made better through each family’s well being.” states Ray Byers, Jr. Byers has long partnered with Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes through the years. “Habitat is proud to have completed 31 homes in Nevada County since 1996. We rely on donors like Byers, to help build homes and look forward to not only The Great Race, but our ongoing work on homes, like the Abbott Family Home, which just broke ground for construction in Grass Valley.” notes Lorraine Larson, NCHFH Associate Director.

A typical ACE (awards for controlled endurance racing) race has 50 driving sections that are timed. A perfect score on a segment is awarded an ACE. NO maps, GPS, or odometers. Teams are allowed to use only cryptic route instructions, a special speedometer, and a stop watch. NCHFH’s team has typically achieved 4 to 6 ACES in past races. Pledge an amount per ACE. Donors can put a cap on their total donation – or just let it “ride” to however many ACES the team attains.

Make a Pledge per ACE!

Those who pledge become part of NCHFH’s race team. Donors receive daily updates from the road on team
progress, stories, photos, and reports on funds raised from ACES achieved along the way. After completion of the race, NCHFH will report to donors on total number of ACES won, pledge amounts, and total funds raised.
