Peddler Hill, CA. – On February 18, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. California Highway Patrol Helicopter 20 (H-20) was requested by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department to search for two skiers and a dog that had been missing since Saturday afternoon.
H-20 was searching near Peddler Hill and located the two skiers who built a snow cave to survive the below freezing temperatures overnight. Due to the remote location and soft pack snow, an El Dorado County Sheriff SAR (Search and Rescue) volunteer was hoisted down to assess the skiers and prepare them for rescue.
Both skiers, the dog, “Parker”, and the rescuer were hoisted from the mountain and transported to the Peddler Hill Caltrans yard. Due to cold related injuries, both skiers were flown by Care Flight and CALSTAR to Sutter Roseville for treatment. Parker remained on scene with the crew until family could arrive.
