Nevada City Council appointed its new city manager at its January 26 city council meeting by approving a contract with Sean Grayson. Grayson will begin his new position February 28.

Grayson comes to the city from Rialto, California where he currently serves as fire chief. Rialto afforded him opportunity to expand his management skills by serving in various interim capacities including city manager, public works director and community services director.

He brings to the city strategic planning and team building abilities that will serve the city well, according to Mayor Duane Strawser. In addition, he has demonstrated experience in building strong relationships with stakeholders as well as extensive background in optimizing expenses and enhancing revenues to improve service.

Grayson attended the council meeting expressing his appreciation at being appointed and noted “Nevada City is at the crossroads of history and progress; and I can’t think of a better place to serve or to call home”.

Grayson has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, a Master’s degree in public service leadership and is a credentialed leadership facilitator. Having grown up in Nevada City and graduating from Nevada Union High School, Grayson is coming back to his roots. He and his family are looking forward to being a part of the community and participating in the many recreational and event opportunities in the city and region.
