June 20, 2018 – “I am proud to announce my re-election as Nevada County’s District Attorney. First and foremost I thank the voters who chose to grant me another term of service to this County. My first priority and highest mandate has and always will be to the service of this community. Serving as your DA for the last 12 years has been among the great honors of my life, and I am filled with humility and gratitude for the opportunity to continue making this community the very best and safest place to live for everyone.
I also wish to thank the attorneys, officers and professionals in my Office for their support and exemplary service over the years. I am very grateful to them for their dedication and hard work, and I am proud to continue the work with them. Going forward there promises to be more difficult challenges, and there isn’t a better team I could wish for to face those challenges.
This has been a contentious campaign, but while the passion of campaign season sometimes brings out the worst in us, I am eager to put the contention behind and embrace a positive future. My opponent’s long record of service as a trial attorney will no doubt continue, and I thank him for that. The coverage of elections, particularly contentious ones such as this,are extraordinary challenges for the local media outlets, print, digital and otherwise. The reporters, editors and writers of Nevada County have done a noteworthy job of supplying the community with the information and coverage they need to make important decisions on Election Day, and I thank them for that.
I am incredibly proud of the job that my Office has done so far in my tenure as your DA,but there are still challenges to come, and the mission of my Office of increased public safety and quality of life for all is a never ending task. It will take a coordinated effort from everyone in my Office, law enforcement agencies, other County Departments and, of course, the general public to succeed in this important mission.
I look forward to the next four years with optimism. I love this community and am excited to continue the work of making it the safest and best place to live for everyone. Again, I thank you all for your support, now let’s get to work.”
