CAMPTONVILLE, Calif. October 23, 2019 – Reader Jeff Ledson tagged us on Twitter yesterday and shared the following video:

I tried to tell the driver about this and he seemed to dismiss our concerns. This is on Highway 49 just outside of Camptonville. #fire #firedanger #firerisk pic.twitter.com/X3LKc09tnO

According to Ledson, the video was taken yesterday morning on Hwy 49 just outside of Camptonville where Caltrans contractors are paving the roadway.
Caltrans’ District 3 (the Sierra area) quickly reacted to the video and stated: “Thank you for flagging. We have forwarded the video to the resident engineer for the project who is contacting the private construction crew immediately. They will also be holding a safety meeting as a reminder of proper safety measures.”
Sparks created by dragging chains, blown-out tires (or dozer blades) can ignite roadside vegetation quickly. Please be careful when driving.
