August 29, 2016 – Placer County received notification today from Costco Wholesale Corporation that the company has elected to terminate its exclusive agreement to negotiate with the county to site a proposed store at the Placer County Government Center in North Auburn.
The agreement was signed with Placer County in October 2015. Costco did not provide details on its reasons for terminating the agreement.
Placer County is updating the 200-acre campus’s master plan, last updated in 1993. Project planners continue to seek public input on new potential uses for the campus, including possible commercial and residential development, as well as a potential community center for all ages, currently being studied in a separate feasibility study.
“We respect Costco’s decision to not pursue a store location at the government center campus,” said Ken Grehm, Placer County Public Works and Facilities director. “We’re still excited about what the future holds for the campus, and we look forward to continuing the conversation with the community about the opportunities the master plan update presents.”
