July 17, 2017 – Red Flag Warning from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM PDT Tuesday. Hot and dry through the week. Breezy winds possible this evening into Tuesday.

Discussion

Dry weather will continue across the area this week as monsoonal moisture is suppressed to the south and east of the area. Cooling trend begins today as ridge is pushed off to the east and weak troughing develops over the West Coast.

Temperatures will drop several degrees today and several more Tuesday, back to around seasonable normals through Thursday. Onshore flow will increase with breezy conditions developing later this evening into Tuesday. This will signal the return of a decent Delta Breeze, leading to further cooling in that area.

Breezy winds with dry conditions will increase fire weather concerns across northeastern portions of the area. Red Flag Warning is in effect for elevations below 5000 feet. Any fire that does start may spread rapidly.

Extended discussion (Friday through Monday)

Seasonal temperatures will remain through at least Friday as a trough remains along the west coast. Temperatures will warm-up some across interior NorCal by the weekend as high pressure strengthens, but do not look excessive for the time of year. Monsoon moisture is expected to remain to the south and east of the region through the weekend.
