GRASS VALLEY, Calif. โ€“ Oct. 2, 2026 โ€“ To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital will once again light up pink throughout October. Each night the ย hospital campus will be illuminated in pink, serving as a powerful, visual symbol of solidarity with patients, survivors and families affected by the disease.

While the hospital shines a light on breast cancer awareness, it is also addressing the sobering reality of the diseaseโ€™s impact nationwide. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 321,910 women and 2,670 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the U.S. in 2026. Despite the
nature of receiving a cancer diagnosis, oncology’s landscape is shifting toward greater precision. Thanks to rapid advancements in screening and molecular diagnostics, the five-year relative survival rate for localized breast cancer is now an encouraging 99%.

To encourage early detection and provide a supportive environment for screenings, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital (SNMH) is hosting its Moonlight Mammograms event at the Womenโ€™s Imaging Center. Offering a unique and approachable alternative to a sometimes intimidating experience, the
Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation, in partnership with SNMH, sponsors the monthly Moonlight Mammogram screening series.

This program provides an easy and relaxed environment for screenings. The next event is scheduled for October 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the SNMH Womenโ€™s Imaging Center in Building 4. These events are specifically for asymptomatic women over 40 who haven’t had a mammogram in the past year. Register by calling the Imaging Center at (530) 274-6246.
