BEAR RIVER, Calif., September 14, 2026 – The new and improved bridge over the Bear River on Dog Bar Road is completed on budget, ahead of schedule and officially in service.
During a ribbon cutting ceremony today, county officials recognized county staff and project partners Viking Construction, HDR Construction Group and Dokken Engineering for replacing the original single lane bridge, designed by the Forest Service in 1934, with a two-lane bridge that includes a pedestrian walkway.
Construction began in spring 2025 and was completed this month at a cost of just over $10 million. Caltrans funded the project through the federal Highway Bridge Program.
The project earned the 2026 Project of the Year in the Transportation Category by the Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Works Association.
