Double Dogwood Restoration Nursery is now open in Nevada City! We proudly serve the Foothills to the High Sierra with high-quality native plants, shrubs, riparian trees, hardwoods and conifers. Our focus is on providing essential resources for restoration, reforestation, and post-fire recovery efforts, while maintaining stock for community residents.

Native plant and tree life offer numerous benefits, from carbon sequestration to enhancing biodiversity and climate resilience. These advantages contribute to the health of our ecosystems and support both local wildlife and human communities.

Our nursery team combines over 35 years of experience in native plant restoration, propagation, environmental and landscape design and ecosystem enhancement. We’re aiming to propagate and grow 15,000 restoration plants per year – in addition to a variety of ornamental natives we offer for our community.

Nursery Owner and Operations Manager Elyse Mack became deeply invested in California native plants and community stewardship through her role in a habitat restoration project for a decommissioned golf course near San Francisco’s North Bay. Elyse’s passion continued as she worked as a Nevada County landscape designer, advocating for the use of native plants as multipurpose ornamentals and for “backyard restoration.”

In 2022, with a vision for using native trees in post-wildfire rehabilitation and riparian restoration through watersheds, Ms Mack’s business secured a Workforce Development grant from the CalFire Forestry division. This grant was instrumental in launching the Double Dogwood Nursery and creating additional local environmental jobs;

“CalFire Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is excited to partner with Double Dogwood Restoration Nursery in a Workforce Development Grant. This collaboration aims to support the critical role of encouraging riparian tree species for ecological resilience, and aiding communities in their recovery efforts after fires. Additionally, this initiative provides a valuable opportunity to work with Elyse, focusing on regional varieties native to the Sierra Foothills.”  – Justin Britton, Division Chief, Wood Products and Bioengineering
