November 30, 2020 – Nevada Joint Union High School District is providing a drive-through lunch pickup on Wednesdays from 11:30 to 12:30 at Nevada Union and Bear River through the end of the pandemic. A similar distribution takes place on Thursdays at Silver Springs. All students under 18 from any school in the county are welcome to participate said NJUHSD Director of Nutrition Services Theresa Ruiz.
“The bags contain 5 breakfasts and 4 lunches, milk and snacks. We also serve a hot lunch with the bag pick up,” Ruiz said. “There are homemade items in the bags (muffins, burritos, breakfast sandwiches) and some shelf stable items.”
This is a drive through only, please remain in your car at all times. United Way of Nevada County, Interfaith Food Ministry, and Nevada Union High School representatives will be distributing supplement groceries in conjunction with the district’s meal distributions.
Please use the sign-up sheet on the District and individual school websites so the food services have an approximate idea of the number of bags to prepare for pickup. You can find the sign-up sheet under food services on the school websites. Parents are welcome to pick up the lunches for their kids.
Thanks to a USDA waiver that originally only covered the Seamless Summer Option, lunch pickup is scheduled to last through the end of the pandemic.
