April 6, 2018 – Earth Day has been observed since 1970 throughout our nation and here in Nevada County at our community college since 2005.
The public is invited to join our students and staff in meeting representatives of our local environmental organizations and agencies to learn about their work to protect and manage our natural resources. Information about alternative energy, how to become better stewards, what local environmental concerns, current events and ways to tie in will be available. Music from a variety of musicians, Nevada County’s own Izzy Tooinsky and even children from our campus day care center will be enhancing the day along with locally prepared foods and a library book sale.
In its fourth year, the Sierra College Health Fair continues its theme of an “educational carnival,” providing the attendees with interactive opportunities to learn more about how to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The holistic approach will include tabling, demonstrations, and games related to exercise, nutrition, drug and alcohol awareness, social health, spiritual health, stress management and more! In partnering with the Earth Day Event, we have created a vision of cultivating lifestyles that mutually benefit the development of healthier humans who inhabit a healthier planet.
The event will be held at the Nevada County Campus of Sierra College 250 Sierra College Drive, Grass Valley.
The event is free but parking is $3. In keeping with having a low impact on our planet think about walking, carpooling or riding public transportation.
The day is sponsored by ECOS Ecologically Conscious Organization of Students, ASSC Associated Students of Sierra College, and the Sierra College Health Center.
