January 23, 2019 – While there is not a severe storm predicted this week, both extreme weather shelters will be opening Wednesday night at 4:30pm as part of the Point-In-Time Count here in Nevada County.
Homeless counts are required to receive funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Though HUD only requires a full count of both unsheltered and sheltered individuals every other year, Nevada County now conducts a full count each year. This year, a number of Nevada County organizations will host events where volunteers will conduct brief surveys with homeless residents of Nevada County.
Both Extreme Weather Shelter will be open Wednesday night as part of this County-wide event to collaborate over one of our most vulnerable populations with a special opening with a goal of counting as many homeless citizens as possible. This is an effort to have the most accurate count of our homeless residents as possible.
