NEVADA CITY, Calif. September 11, 2016 – Alex Willingham, 8, of Folsom, is the $5000 grand prize winner of the 25th Annual Gold Country Duck Race, held Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11) on Deer Creek in Nevada City. Alex got her ticket from 49er Rotarian Tonya Clark.
The winning ticket matched the number of the racing duck that emerged from a field of several thousand toy ducks to take top honors in annual event, which is held as part of Nevada City’s Constitution Day weekend celebration. Winning the $1000 second prize was Meghan Thomas of Grass Valley, while the $500 third place went to Bill Falconi of Nevada City.
The Hot Tub Race was won by Mark Miller of Austin, TX, who won a $5000 hot tub donated by Sierra Timberline. He purchased his winning ticket from 49er Rotarian Erin Miller.
Many other cash and merchandise prizes were also awarded. The Beam Easy Living Center won the sponsor’s race.
The duck race is sponsored by the 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City. The race is the club’s largest annual fundraiser, providing financial assistance to numerous school, youth and community groups.
