GRASS VALLEY, Calif. Caring for a loved one living with illness can be deeply meaningful, but it can also bring emotional, physical, and practical challenges. Foothills Compassionate Care invites family caregivers to a free community workshop on Wednesday, October 28, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Focused on recognizing caregiver burnout, finding practical ways to manage stress, and learning how to care for oneself while caring for someone else, the workshop is open to the public. The presentation will bring together experienced professionals and family caregivers who understand the realities of supporting a loved one through a difficult chapter of life.
โCaregivers often hesitate to ask for help because they don’t want to burden others. But asking for support isn’t a sign of weakness or that you’re not doing enough. It’s an opportunity to let the people around you show up for you and your loved one,โ explains Meranda Orenchuk, Director of Social Services at Foothills Compassionate Care. โTaking care of yourself and allowing others to help is part of providing good care, too.โ
The demands of caregiving can make it easy to overlook personal needs while managing appointments, making decisions, and providing day-to-day support. Learning to recognize the signs of burnout and finding ways to address them can help caregivers feel less isolated and better equipped to navigate the journey. Almost every caregiver can experience burnout at some point.
Participants will explore practical caregiving tools, strategies for incorporating self-care into daily life, and ways to navigate the emotional and everyday challenges of supporting a loved one. The session will also provide an opportunity to connect with others who have experienced similar challenges and learn from the insights of hospice professionals and fellow family caregivers.
โCaring for someone you love can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be emotionally and physically exhausting,โ Meranda emphasizes. โAs family roles change and responsibilities grow, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed at times. We want caregivers to know that these feelings are a normal part of navigating difficult circumstances, and that they don’t have to carry those responsibilities alone.โ
The workshop is designed for family members, friends, and others who are caring for someone living with illness. No one needs to have a connection to Foothills Compassionate Care to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
