The Nevada County Fairgrounds is excited to welcome Forest Lake Christian School as a new Treat Street nonprofit partner! Earlier this year, the Nevada County Fairgrounds opened the application process for local nonprofit organizations to operate the popular “taco booth.” Due to declining membership, the Nevada City Lions Club, who operated the booth for more than sixty years, advised the fairgrounds that they would unfortunately no longer be able to participate and needed to relinquish the booth.

We received nine eligible applications from interested nonprofit organizations. After a thorough review process and a presentation to the Board of Directors from the top four finalists. “It was great to see so many applications and very passionate nonprofits that applied for this opening and it wasn’t an easy decision,” said Jim Franks, Nevada County Fairgrounds Board President. “Running the taco booth will provide the students at Forest Lake Christian School a firsthand experience to learn business operations including everything from food handling, safety, and quality down to the financials.”

At the fair this year, you can expect to find a very similar-tasting taco and a few new options like boba drinks and lemonade, all served by the faculty and students, in the same taco booth attendees have visited for decades.

Zach Wilson, a student at Forest Lake Christian School energetically shared “The Nevada County Fair is where it’s at! We’re super pumped to share our killer tacos and boba with everyone. This is going to be such a great experience for us to learn about business, serve food, and get involved in the Grass Valley community. Can’t wait for some serious fun that’s off the charts!”
