Grass Valley, CA, December 9, 2024 – Gold Country Senior Services (GCSS) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Alliance for Green Heat through the U.S. Forest Service to support its Firewood Program. This grant will play a crucial role in helping GCSS provide heating support to low-income seniors in Nevada County who struggle to keep their homes warm during the winter months.

“Providing firewood to seniors in our community is more than just about heating homes—it’s about supporting their health and well-being through the cold winter months,” said Leslie Lovejoy Exective Director of Gold Country Senior Services. “Thanks to this grant, we’ll be able to help more seniors stay warm and comfortable.”
The Firewood Program, modeled after food banks, depends on wood donated by local tree trimmers, homeowners, and partnerships with the National Forest Service. These wood donations are split and delivered to local seniors to help ensure that vulnerable households stay warm through the cold season. This grant funding will enable GCSS to improve its firewood distribution operations by purchasing needed equipment and covering essential labor and transportation costs, ensuring that seniors are safe and comfortable in their homes.
GCSS is seeking additional community support to meet growing needs. Donations of firewood and volunteers to help split and distribute wood are greatly appreciated.
