GRASS VALLEY, Calif. May 22, 2020 – Dear Community,

Many of you have reached out personally regarding the Friday event sponsored by ReOpen Nevada County. We appreciate and value that you took the time to express your perspectives and positions.

At the end of the day we believe that we all want the same thing which is a safe and responsible opening of our local businesses.

The Chamber’s level of comfort in supporting this event was predicated on the participation of two of our county supervisors, Sue Hoek from District 4 and Dan Miller from District 3, who had agreed to speak at this event. The City of Grass Valley has provided the parking lot to the business advocacy group as a venue to hold their gathering.

Regretfully, and with our heartfelt apologies, we viewed this as the County of Nevada and the City of Grass Valley supporting the event, and thus, we gave the Friday event our support as well.

We wholeheartedly agree with your outpouring of concern about public safety and hope that anyone who may attend follows the CDC and Nevada County Health protocols. Also, earlier this evening we learned that our supervisors will not be speaking.

To that end, the board of directors has reversed our position and we rescind our support of this event. #CommunityFirst

Sincerely, The Board of Directors
Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce
