The City of Grass Valley Measure-B department has formed a partnership with the Gold Country Senior Services Firewood Donation program to provide high volumes of splittable firewood rounds from wildfire fuels mitigation projects removing hazardous trees from around the City.
According to OES/CRR manager Duane Strawser, “It’s a win-win to turn the wildfire fuels stock we remove on a daily basis into a donated firewood resource for our community members. Normally we’d have to chip, burn or haul these trees to a faraway Biomass plant, which is costly, unnecessarily ads large diesel- based transport vehicles onto our already impacted rural roads and highways, and introduces additional ozone emission air pollution into our rural communities.”
He added, “We’re also happy to to provide lumber stock to small milling operations which in many cases eliminates our removal costs and provides valuable timber stock to be made into re-sellable wood products, helping generate revenue in our local economy.”
