November 22, 2016 at 4:49 PM Update: Detective King confirmed that Hansen was charged in 2005 for possession of child pornography and charged with harassing a minor in 2006. Both times he was not convicted. Hansen will likely be arraigned tomorrow at which time the complete list of charges will be announced.

November 22, 2016 – On Monday November 21, 2016, Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit took Randy Jay Hansen, age 65, into custody for continued sexual abuse of a child, sodomy, and two counts of oral copulation of a child under the age of 14.

The investigation began in November 2014 when the victim, a 9 year old girl, reported having been molested by Randy Hansen, a family friend with whom the victim and her father lived with for several months between 2013-2014.  The victim was no longer living with Hansen at the time of her report.

The subsequent investigation lead to a search warrant being served in May 2015 for Hansen’s electronic devices in an attempt to locate corroborating evidence to the victim’s statements and any evidence of sexually explicit material depicting minors.  All electronics seized were sent to the FBI High-Tech Task Force in Sacramento for analyzing.  In the summer of 2016, all reports had been completed and equipment returned to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives reviewed all evidence and reports provided by the task force and continued obtaining other forms of evidence in the case.  On November 21, 2016 Hansen was called into the Sheriff’s office to provide a statement and was subsequently arrested.  He is currently being held on $200,000 bail at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility pending further arraignment.

  1. Did they just catch him at a bad time (those pre-dawn raids can catch you unawares) or is this the poster boy for child rapists everywhere?
