AUBURN July 5, 2020 – Caltrans is advising motorists to be aware of an upcoming northbound lane shift on State Route (SR) 49 in Auburn between Persimmon Terrace and Nevada Street/Marguerite Mine Road.
Construction crews will be re-striping lanes overnight Tuesday, July 7 and shifting northbound traffic to the left. Motorists should be advised that the median turn lane between Persimmon Terrace and Nevada Street/Marguerite Mine Road will be utilized for northbound traffic, preventing southbound left turns for several months. Southbound motorists may access businesses via Palm Avenue and Auburn Ravine Road.
The traffic shift will enable work crews to install a temporary concrete barrier, or k-rail, along the northbound side of SR-49 for the construction of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks and a class II bike lane as part of Caltrans’ commitment to multimodal methods of transportation.

The work is part of a $42.4 million project to rehabilitate existing pavement and drainage, improve operational features and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities from the Interstate 80/SR 49 interchange to Dry Creek Road in Auburn. Completion is expected later this fall.
Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
