GRASS VALLEY, Calif. September 18, 2018 – Yesterday afternoon, while returning from a previous incident Grass Valley Engine 1 (E1) spotted smoke from a residence in the 400 Block of Mill Street.

E1 initiated immediate life safety and suppression actions while updating the Emergency Command Center (ECC). The ECC augmented the response to a multi family structure fire to include Grass Valley E2, Chief 1300, Nevada City E5482, Chief 5400, NCCFD E88 and Battalion 3 with Prevention 1, Cal Fire E2362, Grass Valley Police provided traffic control.

The immediate actions of Engine 1 and excellent coordination between first arriving companies allowed for fire suppression, search & evacuation, and containment of the fire. Firefighters saved the structure limiting damage to a sub floor area and a wall running from the sub floor to the attic. Limited smoke damage occurred in the structure. One firefighter was transported to SNMH for evaluation.

Grass Valley Police, Cal Fire and Sierra Nevada Medics asisted the firefighters. All units were released at 5:00 p.m.
