PLACER/NEVADA COUNTIES – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects continue in Placer and Nevada counties. 

Motorists will experience delays with each project. If traveling across the entire corridor, the cumulative delay may reach up to two hours depending on traffic volumes. Caltrans encourages motorists to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor and check QuickMap for real-time roadway information.

Here is the breakdown for the week in geographical order:

Eastbound I-80

  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Applegate and Weimar, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, August 9 through Thursday, August 13. Work is also scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, August 14 through 7 a.m. Saturday, August 15.
  • Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project
  • Between Monte Vista/Dutch Flat and Drum Forebay, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled around the clock from 6 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 through 6 a.m. Friday, August 14.
  • Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists will detour eastbound to Baxter and return westbound on I-80 to Crystal Springs.
  • Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists will detour eastbound to the next available exit and return westbound on I-80 to Drum Forebay.
Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project, where crews recently installed a new closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera pole at the Drum Forebay off-ramp and moved the old CCTV camera pole at the Crystal Springs off-ramp.

Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near the Whitmore Maintenance Station, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 10 through Wednesday, August 12.

Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project Between the Whitmore Maintenance Station and Emigrant Gap, various lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, August 9 through Thursday, August 13. Work is also scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, August 14 to 7 a.m. Saturday, August 15. Blue Canyon Road, one-way traffic control is scheduled around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday, August 10 to noon Friday, August 14.

Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near Rainbow, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14.

Westbound I-80

  • Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project between Floriston and Hinton Road, various lane closures are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, August 10 through Thursday, August 13.
  • Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near Rainbow, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 through Friday, August 14.
  • Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project westbound I-80 off-ramp at Yuba Gap is closed until further notice due to the crossover in place. Motorists will detour westbound to the Emigrant Gap exit and return eastbound on I-80 to Yuba Gap.
  • Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near Emigrant Gap, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14.
  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Emigrant Gap and the Whitmore Maintenance Station, various lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, August 10 through Thursday, August 13. Work is also scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, August 14 through 7 a.m. Saturday, August 15.
  • Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and Dutch Flat/Monte Vista, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 through Thursday, August 13. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 9 a.m. Friday, August 14.
  • Alta Pavement Improvement Project between Dutch Flat/Monte Vista and Magra, various lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. Monday, August 10 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 and from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 13.
  • I-80 Middle-Mile Broadband Network (MMBN) Project between Gold Run and Colfax, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 5 a.m. Saturday, August 15.
  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Weimar and Applegate, various lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, August 10 through Thursday, August 13. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, August 14.
  • I-80 MMBN Project between Applegate and Clipper Gap, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 5 a.m. Saturday, August 15.

The extended lane closures will help minimize the duration of construction and improve worker safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
