โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for my first improv class with Kimmi Ewing, my wife and I wouldnโ€™t be living in Nevada City. I saw a Yubanet posting about her improv class series and it changed the trajectory of our lives. Laughing as I hadnโ€™t in decades, I was hooked,โ€ Rod Tayler, an improv player happily admits.

Step out of the ordinary and into a universe of play, spontaneity, creativity, and connection. Presenting: The Improverse: Improv for the Senses, a committed, seven-week IMPROV class where partners Raina and Kimmi both lead and together shine.

Raina brings her many years in performance to the class along with experience creating a safe space for openness, authenticity, and playfulness in the body and mind. She holds a degree in Expressive Arts Therapy and studied with legendary dance artist Anna Halprin.

Kimmi contributes to the class with her playful styles of imagination, character development, short and long form improv games, and meaningful partner scene work. She is the creator & founder of Laughter Shock Improv Troupe, an active theater and film actor, and taught Instant Improv Classes for over five years locally with Sandra Rockman.

Together, they will curate weekly classes to explore movement, voice, comedy, character, connection, storytelling, physicality, and spontaneous play through a delicious mix of mind & body warm ups, partner exercise and scene work, and of course lots of IMPROV!

โ€œThis isnโ€™t about being funny or getting good at improv,โ€ Raina comments as she and Kimmi curate and plan together this six week workshop.

โ€œItโ€™s about learning to listen, trust your impulses, take risks, and respond to whatโ€™s actually happening.โ€

Kimmi mentions, โ€œImprov can help with the uncertainties in life, such delicate things like anxiety and depression. It helps build comfort with our uncertainty, encouraging mindfulness, authenticity and best of all, knowing we are NOT alone. Itโ€™s great for creating supportive social connections too.โ€

The Improverse: Improv for the Senses Class Series starts on Thursday, October 1st 6-8pm and goes until Thursday, November 19th where the class improv players can invite friends and family to come support them playing and enjoying improv in a small show.

Themes like Storytelling, Character Development, Emotions, Space Work, and Authenticity/Presence will drive their weekly classes to build on one another for a complete improv experience.

โ€œWeโ€™re very excited to play together, work side by side, and bring something special for the soul, while also just having a good olโ€™ time. Laughter heals and it feels great to create a space for that,โ€ Kimmi concludes.
