TRUCKEE – Caltrans is alerting Interstate 80 (I-80) motorists in Truckee of intermittent on- and off-ramp closures next week for various construction and maintenance activities.

On Monday, June 27, the I-80 westbound off-ramp to Donner Pass Road (Exit 184) will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon for light pole removal, survey work and various maintenance activities.

In addition, I-80 motorists should expect intermittent overnight closures of various ramps between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30 for striping and concrete work on ramps. Two consecutive ramps will not be closed at the same time.

  • ·       I-80 eastbound on-ramp at Donner Pass Road/Cold Stream Road
  • ·       I-80 eastbound off-ramp to State Route 89 South Lake Tahoe (Exit 185)
  • ·       I-80 westbound off-ramp at Central Truckee (Exit 186)
  • ·       I-80 westbound off-ramp at Donner Pass Road (Exit 184)

Intermittent I-80 eastbound lane reductions are expected overnight between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30 for striping work.

Construction activities are part of a $30.6 million project to rehabilitate the existing concrete on I-80 in Truckee, install a westbound auxiliary lane from the SR-89 southbound on-ramp to the Donner Pass Road off-ramp, install eastbound acceleration lanes from the Donner Pass Road on-ramp and SR-89 south on-ramp, improve drainage, and upgrade concrete walkways along ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Teichert Construction of Rocklin is the prime contractor for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in this fall. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather, equipment availability or other unexpected events.

The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3, on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3 and on the Caltrans District 3 website. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
