The western Nevada County elementary education system will be the focus of the next Association of University Women (AAUW) Nevada County Branch monthly program. The program will give attendees an inside look into how today’s elementary education functions. Guest speakers include a school district leader, principals, and classroom educators.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Saturday, February 21st, 9:30-11:30AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main Street, Grass Valley.
Nevada City School District Superintendent John Baggett will offer an overview of the local education system and will detail trends in student achievement, including the impact of the pandemic and other environmental factors. Principals Susie Patterson (Margaret G. Scotten Elementary) and Chrissy McKeown (Deer Creek Elementary) will discuss how districts have navigated the past several years, highlighting successes and ongoing challenges in the early grades to include the use of expanded behavioral and mental health supports, such as the “360-degree services”. Elementary Teachers Sarah White (Margaret G. Scotten Elementary) and Tiffany Rae (Deer Creek Elementary) will share rewarding and difficult classroom stories. The panel will end by answering questions and offering ways community members can best support early education.
The program is sponsored by Realtor Kimberly Pepe and Owens Estate and Wealth Strategies Group.
