STATELINE, NV, Jan. 8, 2018 – This summer, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is hosting its eleventh annual Youth Backcountry Camps (YBCC) in partnership with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS). These exciting four-day adventures get youth away from screens and outside on a life-changing journey into the wild. Youth participants will make new friends while backpacking 3-6 miles per day. They’ll learn new backcountry skills and support their fellow adventurers in the wild while exploring the exciting flora and fauna of the Tahoe Basin. Youth participants are provided all the gear, food, and instruction to get outdoors with their peers. Hiking in the backcountry of Lake Tahoe, cooking, camping, and exploring the joys of backcountry adventures; YBCC participants will discover a whole new world waiting for them! All YBCC trips are instructed by experienced and well-trained outdoor professionals.

One past YBCC participant testified, “This trip made me feel empowered and like I could do anything. I am capable of things that I don’t know I am.” Another said, “I loved sleeping under the stars and I’ll remember the connections I made. I felt most at home in the woods.” Even parents love YBCC! One parent raved, “She came back more confident in herself, and more proud of the natural environment she lives in.” Another attested, “He couldn’t stop talking about how he felt and accomplished on the hike… What a great program to prove to these kids that they can do anything!”
